Federal authorities have arrested a man accused of threatening to kill U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers and members of their families outside a detention facility in Newark, New Jersey, according to reports and statements from officials.
The arrest followed demonstrations outside the Delaney Hall ICE detention center, where tensions have escalated in recent days between protesters, counterprotesters, and law enforcement personnel.
According to federal officials, the suspect was allegedly captured on video making violent threats directed at an ICE officer and the officer’s family during the protest. Authorities said the threats were taken seriously and prompted an FBI investigation.
Reports indicate the man was later taken into custody by federal agents. Officials have not yet publicly released extensive details regarding the suspect’s identity or possible charges.
The incident comes amid broader unrest surrounding the Delaney Hall facility. Demonstrations outside the center have intensified over allegations regarding detainee conditions and immigration enforcement policies. In recent days, confrontations between protesters and police have led to multiple arrests and heightened security around the area.
New Jersey officials have also responded to the unrest by increasing police presence and implementing crowd-control measures near the detention center.
Federal authorities emphasized that threats against law enforcement officers and their families are considered serious criminal offenses and will be investigated aggressively.
The investigation remains ongoing, and additional information is expected as court proceedings move forward.
