DALLAS, TEXAS — In a powerful and emotional ceremony held today in Dallas, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin and Congressman Brandon Gill honored the courageous ICE officers whose actions during the deadly 2025 sniper attack on the Dallas ICE facility helped save lives and prevent an even greater tragedy.
Nearly nine months after the September 24, 2025 attack, federal leaders, law enforcement officials, and supporters gathered to recognize the bravery, professionalism, and sacrifice demonstrated by the officers who came under fire while carrying out their duties.
The Attack That Shocked the Nation
According to investigators, 29-year-old Joshua Jahn launched the attack from a rooftop overlooking the ICE facility near North Stemmons Freeway and Love Field Airport.
Armed with an 8mm bolt-action rifle, Jahn opened fire on a detainee transport vehicle arriving at the facility, killing two detainees and critically injuring another.
Norlan Guzmán-Fuentes, 37, a Venezuelan national, died at the scene. Miguel Angel Garcia-Hernandez, 31, from Mexico, later succumbed to his injuries at a nearby hospital. A third detainee survived following emergency medical treatment.
Authorities later revealed that shell casings recovered at the scene carried anti-ICE messages, pointing to what officials described as a targeted act fueled by hostility toward federal immigration enforcement.
As law enforcement units moved in, Jahn died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound before he could be taken into custody.
Despite the intensity of the attack, no ICE officers were injured — a fact officials credited to the rapid and disciplined response of personnel on site.
